Mihai Stănescu works with leaders in Romania and CEE when something that worked has stopped working, or when a crisis hits. He does the work himself, finds the few moves that change the situation, and gets results moving again.
I work with people who carry decisions, at any level, in companies, family firms, state-owned enterprises, public institutions and NGOs, on problems that have outlasted the usual fixes: the budget, the plan, the reorganization.
You carry a decision, and the result is yours whether it works or not. You may run a company, a division, a function, a country organization, an NGO or a public institution. You may advise the person who decides, formally or informally. What you share with everyone else here is simple: the decision is real, the ground keeps moving, and the usual moves have stopped working. If that is you, this work is for you, at any level, in any kind of organization.
How I work
I do the work myself.
My field is applied anthro-complexity, which is how people in organizations decide and act when the situation is uncertain and no one can see all of it. The work is decision-making frameworks and an organization’s capacity to adapt.
The work draws on anthropology, the cognitive sciences and complexity research, and what I use is checked against the evidence. The setting is risk and turbulence: decisions that have to be made while the ground is moving.
We start with one real problem you are facing and work on the next step you can take from where you are.
The person you meet in the first conversation is the person who does the work and writes the findings. I have nothing else to sell you: no software, no licenses, no large team. I start from your context, the people involved and your constraints. I use many tools and frameworks, and I choose them for your situation. Every tool has its limits, so the situation decides the tool.

Outside work
I grew up competing in basketball and volleyball, and I played badminton. Aikido taught me to use an opponent’s energy and to aim for peace. Jazz is constant innovation, which is why I go to small clubs, North Sea Jazz and Montreux. I return to Homer for the roots of European culture, and I find Byzantium the richest stress-tested culture in this part of the world. To rest, I sail and read.
